Recruitment is now open for the NHS Scotland Academy Accelerated Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Registration Training Portfolio Programme

Applications are now open for suitable trainees for our October 2024 and February 2025 cohorts for the new Accelerated Institute of Biomedical Science Registration Training Portfolio Programme (IBMS RTP).

The programme will support the preparation of biomedical science graduates from non-applied IBMS-accredited degree programmes (for example, those without a clinical placement) to complete the IBMS RTP.

This is the first national (non-applied) Biomedical Scientist training programme in Scotland and has the endorsement of the IBMS.

The programme will facilitate the accelerated completion by supporting trainees in demonstrating their knowledge, skills, and competence at the appropriate level to successfully apply to register with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.

We will work in partnership with the designated Training Officer/Training Manager in the trainee’s own IBMS-approved training laboratories to support a positive, quality-assured learning experience.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a place, trainees must:

  • Be employed as a Trainee Biomedical Scientist within an Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) approved NHS Scotland Board laboratory
  • Be ready and eligible to undertake the IBMS RTP
  • Have undergone training on OneFile; and
  • Have the support of their employing laboratory for attendance at all-day release sessions (11 days in total, approx. 2 days per week over 6 weeks. All sessions delivered online).
