The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring “that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families are treated fairly.”
While this programme has a focus on employability, the health, both physical and mental, of those that have served and work in health and care must be given the attention they need and deserve.
Your GP should normally be your first point of contact for health concerns. However, Veterans Scotland has a useful list of additional resources available for both physical and mental health needs.
Significant work is being undertaken to support the mental health and wellbeing of veterans. The Scottish Veterans Care Network published a report at the end of 2021 which explored what needs to be done in service for veterans in Scotland.
There is also information available that may be useful on the Scottish Government’s website.
